That was the main event of the week.
Chieh and I went to Dewan Filharmonik yesterday to watch Berlioz's 'La damnation de Faust'. WingYie and her family were there as well.
She suggested for another Subway breakfast appointment. Gah I'm so hungry.
It's not really an opera like 'Tristan und Isolde' and Mozart's epic 'Le nozze di Figaro', more like a smaller one. No elaborate costumes or actions; more focus on the singing and facial expressions. There are minimal actions, e. g. the seducing of Marguerite and Faust's escape.
Overall, it was an enchanting performance. I was looking forward to hearing Mephisto's baritone part, sang by Nicolas Courjal. Chieh and I fell in love with him. Ah French men.
Marguerite's part was sang by Katherine Rohrer because the original singer was down with flu. Anyway, she was equally as engaging as the rest of the cast, in terms of voice. However, the guy who sang Brander's part has the face for Mephisto's. The 'bad boy' face lol.
Love Marguerite's dreamy serenade.
Love the Menuet des follets.
Love the end of Part IV where Mephisto and Faust ride to hell.
The music was quite cinematic and modern in the climax. The style is similar to present-day composers like Clint Mansell and James Horner.
Though it was a very neck-straining experience (straining to read the English subtitles on the projector), I thoroughly enjoyed it.
Right after that, I rushed to attend this gathering planned by John. For us 2003 SJK(C) Naam Kheung 6K students.
It has been 7 years. We still remember those age-old scandals and childish things we did. I even confessed to Ms. Khoo how I 'shortened' the essays she asked us to copy.
Bunny and I weren't in the pictures because we left a little earlier.
It's so good to see them again. It's so good to have ChunWai play the guitar whilst we hum to that pretty song, '童年'.
Ecstatic when ChunWai strummed his guitar and sang 'When You Say Nothing At All' for me. Aww. I almost melted.
P/S: I miss Bunny, ShinWee and LungChuin the most XD
And I find that KL is such a small place people are interconnected. As in, your friend may know your classmate from college whom you'd never dream would know each other.
