Eventless

Remember the times when all you wanted was an 'A', the quintessence of excellence, the symbol of distinction...

That was years ago.

A few months back, all you could see was 'A1'.

Though they say that an 'A2' is still an 'A', but somehow it looked different, and very much... degrading.

Do you recall your reflection in the mirror when tears tattooed your face with your trial results? The putrid and disheartening 8A's, where there were only 2 'A1's.

Perhaps the lecturers were being nice. You couldn't tell if euphemism is in the air or not because you're still having a cold.

"Very good results! Excellent!" they said, tracing their fingers on your trials result, circling the 8A's. You could apply for the 25% scholarship.

You think it's great to just get any 'A's.

No. It's not. It's the number that comes with it that matters.

'A' alone doesn't mean anything. Neither is 'A1' everything.

Pass gets you a job.
Credit gets you a place in colleges.
'A' gets you a hope of a scholarship.
'A1' gets you a scholarship.

You'll only end up like Bill Gates if you are tremendously creative, talented or sociable, or just absurdly lucky.

Don't just sit there and say, "You don't need to be smart to be rich. I can survive with just credits and passes."

Dream on.
