PPDKL Performance / Charity Dinner with Gurmit Singh & Clement Chow

Reached school with Lai Quan early in the morning at 6.20am, as requested by my dear orchestra president, Nicole.

Gurpreet, Ivy, Mel, Ace and Grace wished us all the best. Thanks, guys.
In the bus. Yen Yin looking out the window. Alfred's forehead. Kuey Teow's back.

Someone tying her hair.

Nicole, Sec 3, looks like Angela Chang the Taiwanese singer.

So boring I just had to take pictures en route~

PPDKL is just beside VI. I can see the two white-washed towers of VI standing proudly behind the roof of PPDKL.

We're not the only entertainers. There was a Malay traditional chamber music by SMK Bdr Sentul, silat performers from SMK Cheras to escort the VIPs in and none other than the well known VI cadet corps band.

In conclusion, we're not the only musicians. Got brass band and Malay traditional musicians.

Rivals.

No la, a way to make friends through music (walau eh so poetic one).

We were to perform at the car park. See the road? Freshly tarred.

We laid our precious instruments on the sidewalk and went for breakfast. So nicely arranged. My pipa is the one at the end of the picture.

Our breakfast, provided by PPDKL. Not bad, a little too spicy for me.

One question.

How do they expect us to eat meehoon with only a spoon?

The show started with the silat performers (2 guys) escorting the VIPs in, with their majestic silat movements. The background music was... no comment.

As the VIPs walked in, the cadet corps started playing their song. I tell you their uniform so chun, so yeng.

I took this while the speeches were going on. Typical Malaysians, a lot of speeches.

Pn. Radiah, our principal came over from her tent to see us. We represent the school ma, so she got face lo~

No la no la, the school got face.

When the started eating, the emcee announced for the performance to start. So the traditional Malay chamber musicians started playing their songs. Very familiar songs, 'Can Mali Can', somemore got 'Tokyo Drift' le~

After 3 songs, we started playing 'Ulek Mayang' (a Terengganu folk song), followed by 'Rhythm of the Rain'. Got a lot of reporters there, the camera men took their cameras focusing on each of our faces.

The chamber musicians played another 3 songs. After they finished we played 'Jung Inai & Wau'. Some technical problem occured so we allowed the chamber musicians to play their songs first.

Then the climax.

We took the guests away in a dreamy and soothing 'Laputa'. Followed by every Malay's favourite --- 'Tarian Bunga Rampai'.

And then... the killer.

'Matsuri' by Kitaro.

Even when I'm playing my pipa, I could see the amazement and astonishment in the guests eyes. One even had his jaw hanging in the air, I could even see the food in it (lol yucks)! The camera man came so near me. The lens was like only a few centimetres away from my face. Then he focused on my fingers when I did the 'wu zhi lun' (one of the special effects of pipa).

There was a thunderous applause from the audience after we finished the last song. Gosh, it was exhilirating.

After our performance, the VI cadet corps played the song they performed when the VIPs arrived. Followed by 2 jazzy songs that really captivated us performers.
I love bagpipes~
But it sounded like a funeral march when they played it.

I was almost dancing to the jazzy songs. The trumpeters moved like willow trees at the starting of the 2nd jazzy song. Then the music quickened to an allegro, the trumpeters crossed their legs! I was agog.

They started moving around. It was like a dance. They squated, they crossed their legs, they walked.

I knew they were good but... I didn't know they were THAT good. Shall never argue with dad about the Victorians' potential.

Jiang Long's eyes almost popped out of their sockets when they played 'Tong Hua'. Deng, we should have played our version! To vie with them!

Chinese instruments vs. Brass instruments. The battle of the instruments. East meets west.

At the end of the ceremony, the VIP talked to our teacher. Pn. Radiah got a lot of handshakes. Group photo taken with the chamber musicians. A lot of people gave the thumbs up and positive comments for our performance with the chamber musicians.

People even asked about our school. Muahahaha~

Our lunch. So generous of them.

Very nice tupperware.

Went shopping with dad and Damien in JJ on Saturday. Shopping for gifts for mom.

Bought a handbag from Cleef. Damien, Brian and dad bought a Strawberry Moose Cake.

Look what I found.

Someone stole my mom's name for their restaurant.

Went for the charity dinner by 10th KL Boys' Brigade Company. Brian was part of it.

At the Grand Ballroom of Sime Darby Convention Centre.

45 minutes drive away from my place.

Nice lights~

The menu~

The stage where Gurmit Singh and Clement Chow are supposed to perform.

Like typical Malaysians and VIPs. The invitation said starts at 6.30pm, some people came at 7pm.

Sigh... when will you people change your ways?

The opening act by kids from Rumah Charis orphanage.

Gurmit and Clement in action.

I know it's not clear. That's what you get for paying RM 200 per head for this charity dinner.

But it's worth it.

'Cause got a lot of hot guys.

Gurmit and Clement suggested a game. Every table must have one representative to play. We chose Damien for our table. One of the tasks is to wear a lady's high heels on your right foot.

Damien's foot looked good in my gold heels.

Me, bored during the auction~

It ended at 11pm. While people were filing out of the ballroom, we waited for Brian.

Happy birthday, 10th KL BB~!!

Happy Mother's Day~
